Athletics Selection Criteria
Each Sports Team Manager will prepare selection standards or criteria and these will be published below when available. Performances which meet the selection standard must be reported through the respective Sport Team Manager.

Triathlon Selection Standards
'A' Standard (Selection) Men 2hrs 15mins, Women 2hrs 30mins.
'B' Standard (Consideration) Men 2hrs 25mins, Women 2hrs 40mins.
Times to be achieved in a Standard Distance Race during 2018.
Tennis Selection Standards
There will be up to 5 spaces each available for male and female players.
As a guide for consideration we would be looking at players of at least a 6.1 rating or of the equivalent standard which can be demonstrated by recent experience of higher division tennis within a county league setup.
Shotgun Selection Standards
The following disciplines are to be contested in Gibraltar 2019: Olympic Trap, Automatic Ball Trap and Olympic Skeet (all open events).
Interested competitors should contact Kath Bright by 30/4/18 to register interest and be able to submit 3 CPSA registered scores from a minimum of 2 different grounds during 2018.

In addition swimmers must have the agreement of your club and coach to allow you to be considered for the games. Swimmers are expected to attend for at least 8 hours pool training per week increasing to 10 hours from September 2018.
Table Tennis Selection Standard
Team selection will be based on each players ability and willingness to commit to training sessions and the games. It is our intention to take the strongest possible team.
Any players who are eligible but living off island should contact Team Manager Danny Burns to register interest and provide information of their playing standards. Players living on the Island should also contact the team manager who can then assess performances.
Players seeking more information or wishing to register an interest should do so by end April 2018 with selections being made by end December 2018.
Sailing Selection Standards
- Be above the age of 13 on 6th July 2019.
- Be able to competitively race one of two rigs; Laser Standard or Laser Radial in a variety ofconditions (up to 25 knots).
- Must complete and provide a copy of your application form to sailing team manager as mentioned on form by 23rd March 2018 or prior to final selection race.
- Selection trials are on 24th March 2018 and 16th June 2018 at Royal Victoria Yacht Club. If you are not able to attend, please let us know as soon as possible so that we may assess your sailing ability in some other way.
- Be willing and able to provide proactive support through fundraising events, in addition tosharing and promoting with the use of social media and contribute to publicity of the games, team and your sport.
Selection will be announced on 30 June 18
Squash Selection Standards
Team selection will be based on each players ability and willingness to commit to attending training sessions and the games. It is our intention to take the strongest possible team.
Any players who are eligible for TeamIOW but living off island should contact the team manager to register their interest in competing and provide evidence to adequately demonstrate their ability so they can be considered.
Players from the island should also contact the team manager who will judge their suitability for the team based on local knowledge and performances.
All players should register their interest by end of May 2018 with final selections being made at the end of December 2018.
Basketball Selection Criteria
The basketball team will be selected based on commitment to team training and standard of play achieved in any formal league setting. It is our intention to take the strongest and most dedicated team possible
Interested eligible players whether resident should contact Ian Broadsmith or Carl Russell in order that standards of play can be properly assessed.
Please make contact as soon as possible, final team selection will be made at the end of 2018.
Cycling Selection Criteria
The Gibraltar Games will only include Road Cycling.
There will be 3 events, Criterium, Road Race and Time Trial.
The Games bylaws only permit 5 cyclists of each gender per island and TeamIOW competitors will ride in all 3 events.
TeamIOW want to take the strongest possible 5 riders who are willing and able to compete in all 3 events was part of a committed group of riders to produce the best possible result for the team.
Selection will be based on British Cycling Race licence categories and points earned during the 2018 season. Ideally riders should be in Category 2 or above.
Interested eligible cyclists should contact the IWIGA or Team Manager Russell Page by end May 2018 with selections being made at the end of this year.
Badminton Selection Criteria
Team selection will be based on the strength & ability of players for each discipline to give us the best overall chance of winning the team event, selecting who we consider to be our strongest male & female singles players & doubles pairings.
Decisions will be based on commitment, performances & results of each individual during the season prior to the games aided by match statistics from Badminton England tournaments, county matches, national rankings & county closed tournaments.
Anyone wishing to be considered for selection may attend the training sessions during the summer prior to the games, commencing during May 2018. A refundable deposit must be left with the Association Treasurer to show your commitment and in the event of non-selection will be returned in October 2018. The Deposit will be that as decided by the Isle of Wight Island Games Association.
Any players who are eligible for the games but living off the Island should contact the team manger to register their interest and provide evidence to adequately demonstrate their ability so they can be considered. These players would be expected to attend some training sessions to acquaint themselves with all those also up for selection and aid the process of selection of pairings.
All Squad members would be expected to participate in a significant amount of fundraising events during the process as part of their general commitment to the squad.
The Squad will be reduced to 14 players on 31st October 2018 and then further reduced on 31st January 2019 to the final Team of 10 (5 men / 5 ladies) (2 reserves will also be named at this time).
